Kim tells the youth to slow down and rethink their perspective. Kim has a clock on his desk that doesn’t run. It’s not broken. He purposely took out the batteries to remind himself of something else: time is relative.
There are 24 hours or 1,440 seconds in a day. Divide that by the average lifespan of the average Korean which is 80 years and you get the sum of 18 minutes. In other words, every year of your life is the equivalent of 18 minutes during a day. At the age of 24, your clock is at 7:12 AM.
This is the time when people sit up in bed, rubbing their eyes and muddling over what the day has in store for them. At the age of 24, or even 29 for that matter, you are just getting started in life. This is a time for you to get the day’s order organized, not rushing about already condemning a day that hasn’t even started.
